After the prologue race, and one inshore race at the Giraglia Rolex Cup in Saint-Tropez, France, the ORC A class is being led by a Swan 45.
The prologue race, which ran from Sanremo, Italy to Saint-Tropez, France on Friday 8th June, started the event, and gave Mandolino an opportunity to get in a good first result in a smaller fleet before the inshore races started on the following Sunday.
Day one of the inshore races saw trying conditions which started with 15 – 18 knots of wind, and later reached 30 knots during the racing. Mandolino worked with the conditions well to pull in a first place, putting them at the top of the fleet. “It’s fantastic to be here at this event,” owner Martino Orombelli commented, “Getting a first in the first inshore race was great, and we are really excited for the rest of the week’s races.”
IRC A fleet shows a good turnout from the Swan 45 Class, with Jeroboam tied for first place with equal points, and Thetis in seventh place. Earlybird and High Yield are also competing.
The inshore races will continue until Tuesday, when a prize giving will be held in Saint-Tropez. On Wednesday, the 242 nautical mile offshore race to Sanremo, Italy, will begin, with the boats arriving in Italy on Thursday or Friday. The final prize giving will held at the Yacht Club Sanremo on Friday 15th June.
The Giraglia Rolex Cup is the second stop for the Swan 45 Class on their 2012 Mediterranean Circuit.
